Quartzsite Show Recap

Quartzsite Show Recap

I started this blog as an opportunity to show you all a little glimpse into my world. And although i'm already dreaming of this year's finds, I thought you might want to see a little peek into last years Quartzsite Gem Show, where I buy most of the rough gemstone that I use in my pieces.
The Quartzsite Gem show takes place in Quartzsite, Arizona - a small desert town  of less than 4,000 people located in western Arizona. This small mining town formed in 1897 has been a rockhound's paradise since the 1960s.
Quartzsite is just 20 miles east of the Colorado River (the perfect place to watch sunset and take a look at the day's rock bounty).
In the middle of the summer, Quartzsite is often the hottest place in America, with record temperatures reaching 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Which is why we are are so lucky that most Gem shows in town are held in the months of January and February!
Quartzsite is a popular destination in the winter for campers and gem show visitors. There are nine major gem and mineral shows and 15 or so swap meets, all of these attract about 1.5 million people annually to this tiny desert town.
Rocks, gems, minerals, fossils, Thunder eggs, Geodes, and everything else imaginable are available at this very special flea market, and I feel so very lucky to have a reason to come out to the desert to wander around, learn about rocks, pick up some perfect specimens and a ton of inspiration.
