Lapis Lazuli is a metamorphic rock formed during the metamorphosis of chalk into marble. It has been prized since antiquity for its intense blue color, and has been mined since 7th Millennium BC from a number of mines in the area of Afghanistan. Beads of this semi-precious stone have been found at a number of Neolithic burials as far from Afghanistan as Mauritania, and it was also used in the funeral mask of King Tutankhamun.
Variscite is a rare mineral formed by phosphate rich water deposits that react with aluminum rich rocks in a near-surface environment. Variscite is rarely found in crystals that are large enough to see without magnification. Instead it usually occurs in cryptocrystalline masses, nodules, veins, or cavity fillings. Variscite was originally discovered in Germany in 1837. Its name is derived from Variscia, the historical name of the town where it was first found
Australian Pink Opal’s formation happened over many centuries in a locality known as Mooka Station (which is why this stone is also called Mookaite) in Western Australia, in an area where a great inland sea once existed. Microscopic creatures known as radiolarians thrived in this sea. However, as the sea began to evaporate, these plankton-like animals opalized as they absorbed various minerals from the retreating waters, which were very rich in Iron oxide and therefore responsible for the stone’s pink color.
Turquoise's history as a spiritual stone goes back over 7500 years. Whereas Egyptians prized Turquoise as a Life Stone, Native Americans believed the stone brought protection to a rider upon a horse, and great protection in general. Turquoise was also highly revered in Tibet, where a stone was carried throughout one’s entire life and the material was exchanged as currency, the finest stones being more valuable than gold.
