About the stone:
This type of opal takes its name for it's Mine, one of the oldest known opal fields in Australia, which was first discovered in the 1930s.
The word Andamooka is derived from an Aboriginal name, meaning ‘Large Waterhole’, which is situated 600 kilometres north of Adelaide, and is the only Australian city where none of the streets are named.
Andamooka Opal is also known as the “Queen’s Opal” as it was cut and set into an 18 carat palladium choker band in 1954 that was presented to Queen Elizabeth II on the event of her first authorized state trip to Australia.
This type of opal is originally light, also known as milky opal, however, it is often treated with sugar to turn it black and improve the Opal play of color.
